Target 5 Files

Target 5 is an innovative file in every sense when it comes to negotiating apical patency. In addition to its unique design, it offers exceptional resistance to buckling, making it easier to penetrate and negotiate sclerotic or calcified canals.

Buckling

A good patency negotiation file must exhibit high resistance to buckling, meaning it should have sufficient rigidity to navigate narrow and calcified canals without deforming.

This property is directly influenced by the instrument’s design and thermal treatment.

Target 5 combines both: it features a pentagonal cross-section, which increases resistance to torsion and buckling, and an enhanced heat treatment that optimizes its performance during canal negotiation.

Active Tip

Beyond resistance, a patency file must primarily help establish the glide path. For that purpose, Target 5 has a negative cutting angle and closely spaced flutes, ensuring smooth sliding and reducing the risk of locking inside the canal.

Its active tip facilitates progression through sclerotic and calcified canals, giving clinicians greater control and safety.

The Target 5 Manual File System was designed with a 30% increase in its internal core and a reduction in helical spacing. This core enlargement is closely linked to the file’s pentagonal design, which significantly enhances the instrument’s resistance to buckling when negotiating calcified canals. The characteristic motion of the Target 5 involves apical pressure toward the apex, combined with a slight clockwise movement to engage the canal walls, allowing the file to advance gradually until patency is achieved. This file should be used with a “dart-like” motion. Avoid oscillatory movements.
